Armenia - 2020

synopsis

“Sweeping Yerevan” is a heartwarming portrait of Marina, a woman who walks 40km every night to sweep the streets of the Armenian capital, Yerevan, dodging cars and risking her life, in order to support her blind husband, her mother-in-law who lives with her, her unemployed son and her two young children. During the day, she mends clothes for clients and works as a janitor at the local music school to cover all of her family's expenses. With few options for her generation since the collapse of the Soviet Union and the closing of factories, Marina nurtures her children's education and musical skills, hoping they will have a different future than hers.
